August 31, 1886, 9:50 p.m.:
Mr. and Mrs. Macqueen and Olivia's quiet evening at home is interrupted by a long low rumble drifting in the window as if a heavily-laden horse-drawn wagon is approaching. Seconds later the low rumble has turned into a terrifying roar, the floor rolling beneath their feet, the whole house swaying, the chimney buckling and spitting bricks forward. An earthquake has hit the city of Charleston, toppling the Macqueen home!
Sifting through the wreckage, Drew finds Olivia unconscious, pinned under a collapsed doorway frame, and her parents expired. Olivia awakens, more than a week later, with total amnesia of the previous year. She has no knowledge of who Drew is, and believes herself still engaged to the nefarious Lloyd, who sees this as the perfect opportunity to absolve himself of any responsibility for his crimes. Drew is faced with either helping Olivia remember her past, or re-winning her heart before she marries the wrong man.
Debbie Lynn Costello has penned a novel full of non-stop action, gripping suspense, emotion-filled romance, and laced with a thread of faith. Based on an actual event, the realism of "Shattered Memories" kept me captivated from beginning to end - a beautifully sensitive story with spiritual lessons of God's love, forgiveness, and trusting His timing!

Enjoyed this book in many different ways. The setting and characters are well developed and pull you into their world. Found myself loosing some sleep to keep reading. It was worth it.
I found this author because of the title and the setting---the 1886 earthquake in Charleston. She places interesting characters with past secrets and relationships into a very difficult, tragic natural disaster. The history of Charleston and the era after the Civil War in the South reveals intriguing aspects of life in the late 19th century. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Shattered Memories is one of those books that has such an interesting premise - a catastrophic historical earthquake (and being in NZ that’s something we know all about) a case of amnesia where our heroine has lost a year of memories and a nefarious ex fiancé who immediately takes advantage of the memory loss to reinsert himself into the picture.
Olivia Macqueen should be basking in the new love that has come into her life with Dr Andrew “Drew” Warwick after her former fiancé abuses her and appears to be complicit in an embezzlement scandal at her father’s insurance company. But following the devastating earthquake and the tragic loss of those dear to Olivia, she has few to turn to and with a missing year of memories, isn’t sure just who can be trusted.
The story quickly grabs the reader and keeps interest and adrenaline hight as we live in fear that Olivia will give into Lloyd’s demands and marry him quickly as he appears to offer her protection and a home, all the while trying to convince her that Drew is the bad guy in all of this and he shouldn’t be trusted.
A great foundation for hopefully and exciting series about a time little know about and I hope we see more of the Warwick brother’s in subsequent tales.
Shattered Memories is the first installment from the Charleston Earthquake series. I love love love this book! This is one of those books that I cannot decide if I want to be selfish and put it on my keeper or pass it on and let someone else to enjoy it. I loved everything about this story. Olivia and Drew in beautiful Charleston during one of its tragic times in history. I just love the whole Warwick family and hope that I will catch up with them in the next book of the series.
Highly recommended.

I immediately loved the Warwick family and their care and concern for those around them. As they nursed Olivia back to health, my heart ached for her and all she had lost. On the other hand, I despised the villainous Lloyd Pratt and was eager for Olivia to discover his true nature.
Shattered Memories is a stirring and emotional story that captivated me from beginning to end! I can’t wait to read more from this wonderful author!
An earthquake in Charleston in the year 1886 brings life to a tragic point as buildings crumble on their inhabitants. Prior to the events Olivia, who had left a abusive fiancee, and was courting Drew was living a pleasant life. As the earthquake happens, her home is devastated. As she wakes from unconsciousness days later, she has lost a year of memories, including those of Drew.
As a result of her injuries, she still regards her former fiancee as the man in her life. He finds this as an opportunity to again find his way back into her life. Drew patiently waits as he hopes her memories of him will come back. But her former fiancee looks to push for a quick marriage.
This book is suspenseful and keeps your attention as you quickly turn the pages to see what is going to happen!
